- This portable arcane instrument points in the direction of the last portal it passed through while it and the portal are on the same plane of exisistence. If that portal no longer exists, the needle become static until the compass passes through a new portal.
- If placed into a Bag of Holding or similar extradimensional container, it counts as the last portal the compass passed through.
- Upon acquisition, the needle is static, having no portal to point to.
